The Low Pass
This project explores the horror of uncertainty and the anticipation of catastrophe. It examines what happens to social interaction when a subtle disruption of the familiar order makes ordinary communication impossible. How does fear — caused by uncertainty and the feeling of an approaching threat — begin to shape the body and social behavior before the danger even takes a definite form? The project began with an observation of how a minor disturbance within a collective situation can radically transform the behavior of a group. I am interested in a moment when people remain inside a familiar scenario, yet can no longer act as if nothing has changed. A connection between them begins to collapse through an almost invisible rupture. The project presents a society suspended in fear. Catastrophe does not appear as an event, but as the anticipation of its possible arrival.
